Zoomlion backs presidential audit, reforms

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has pledged its full cooperation with the Office of the President following a directive to audit and verify payments under the now-expired contract with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
The company welcomed the scrutiny as part of ongoing efforts to promote accountability in the sanitation sector.
In a statement signed by the Corporate Affairs and Communications Director, Ms. Emma Adwoa Appiaa Osei-Duah, Zoomlion expressed confidence that the current measures being adopted by the government would strengthen public trust, improve service delivery, and ensure lasting institutional reforms.
“As a responsible corporate entity, transparency, integrity, and delivering value for money are core to our operations,” the statement emphasized.
The presidential directive, issued in a letter dated June 11, 2025, is aimed at verifying the financial and operational components of the now-lapsed YEA Street Sweeping Programme contract with Zoomlion.
Contract expiration not termination
Zoomlion firmly rejected suggestions circulating in sections of the media that the government had terminated its contract.
It clarified that the agreement under scrutiny—the Street Sweeping Programme—had naturally expired in September 2024 after a previously agreed six-month extension.
“This expiration does not constitute a termination or cancellation,” the company stressed.
The company added that its longstanding partnership with the YEA, spanning over 19 years and multiple administrations, is testament to its consistent service and contribution to Ghana’s development.
Importantly, Zoomlion noted that the letter from the Presidency did not allude to any cancellation of its other ongoing contracts or suggest discontinuation of its broader sanitation engagement with the state.
Backs competitive procurement
Zoomlion also embraced government’s call for greater competition in the procurement of future sanitation-related contracts.
The company affirmed its readiness to participate in any such transparent bidding process.
“We wish to affirm that the recently expired YEA contract was competitively procured in 2019,” it stated.
With a track record of operational competence, technological innovation, and an extensive nationwide presence, Zoomlion believes it is well-positioned to remain a key player under any future contract regime.
Welfare of sanitation workers a top priority
Addressing the government’s stated desire to improve the remuneration of sweepers and sanitation workers, Zoomlion endorsed the initiative, adding that the dignity and livelihoods of these workers remain central to its mission.
“We recognize their vital role in national development, and that many rely on this sector for daily income,” the company added.
Zoomlion emphasized that its operations have always sought to deliver both environmental benefits and social impact, particularly through job creation in marginalized communities.
Zoomlion’s impact goes continental
Highlighting its growing reputation beyond Ghana’s borders, Zoomlion revealed that its sanitation success story has drawn interest from 24 African countries.
These nations have either signed memoranda of understanding, entered into concession agreements, or initiated feasibility studies with the company to replicate its model of sustainable waste management.
“This widespread continental interest underscores our role as a leading force in environmental solutions and reflects Ghana’s growing influence in shaping Africa’s green transformation agenda,” the company stated.
Zoomlion aligns with Mahama’s ‘Reset’ Agenda
Zoomlion further reaffirmed its alignment with the current government’s “RESET” agenda—Rebuilding, Equity, Sustainability, Empowerment, and Transformation—under President John Dramani Mahama.
The company emphasized its unwavering commitment to national development and stakeholder collaboration.
“Our shared goal remains to build a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Ghana for the benefit of all citizens,” the statement concluded.
