The National Identification Authority (NIA) has refuted claims that the Ghana Card is now enabled for financial transactions, calling the reports untrue and misleading.
In a statement issued on April 8, the Authority clarified that the Ghana Card is not currently enabled for any financial transaction purposes and urged the public to disregard circulating information to the contrary.
“The public is advised to treat such claims as inaccurate and rely only on official communication from the Authority,” the statement said.
The NIA, however, confirmed that discussions are ongoing among policymakers and key stakeholders within the financial and regulatory sectors on the possible future integration of the Ghana Card into financial systems.
It explained that the engagements form part of broader efforts to deepen digital identity usage and support financial inclusion, but stressed that no final decision has been taken.

According to the Authority, all deliberations remain inconclusive, and no rollout has been approved.
The NIA assured that any policy direction or official implementation regarding the use of the Ghana Card for financial transactions will be formally communicated through its verified channels.
It reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity, security, and proper use of Ghana’s national identification system.
