Transport Operators Slam NRSA Ban on Toyota Voxy, Demand Reversal
Commercial transport operators in Ghana have criticised the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) over its decision to ban the use of the Toyota Voxy for commercial transport, describing the directive as ill-conceived.
In a statement issued, the Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana said the decision fails to address the underlying causes of road accidents and instead places an undue burden on drivers.
The group noted that the Toyota Voxy is widely used in the transport sector and remains a dependable vehicle for commercial operations. It warned that the ban could disrupt services and negatively affect the livelihoods of operators.
The operators called on the NRSA to reconsider the directive and adopt more targeted measures to improve road safety. These include enhanced driver education, training programmes, and broader stakeholder engagement.
They also urged the Authority to focus on addressing challenges such as poor road infrastructure and accident-prone areas, which they say contribute significantly to road crashes.

The group further indicated its opposition to the directive, stating that it would take steps to protect the interests of its members.
The statement was jointly signed by Asonaba Nana Wiredu, National Chairman of the Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana; David Agboado, Public Relations Officer; and Yaw Barimah, National PRO of the True Drivers Union.
